How to Use Oracle Cards for Daily Guidance
People often ask me: "How do I do it right?" My answer is always the same. You cannot go wrong. Oracle cards are not about rules. They are an invitation to slow down, connect with your heart, and listen to what you already know.
Here is a simple way to begin, whether you hold a physical deck or use one of the oracle Apps.
1. Arrive in the moment
Before you draw, take three slow breaths. Feel your feet on the ground and let your shoulders drop. Your mind does not need to be empty, only a little quieter. Allow your thoughts to be there, and let your breath carry you back to your heart.
2. Hold a question, or simply ask for guidance
Your question can be specific: "What do I need to know about this decision?" Or it can be open: "What do I need to know today?" Both are welcome. Hold the question in your heart rather than in your head.
Keep it open-ended. "Should I take this job?" invites a yes or no. "What can help me see this choice clearly?" invites guidance.
3. Shuffle until it feels right
Shuffle the cards, or let the App shuffle for you, and notice when it feels complete. Then spread the cards and feel which one calls you. It may be the first one your eyes fall on, or the one your hand moves toward. Trust that.
4. Look before you read
Look at the painting first. What do you notice? What do you feel? A color, an animal's gaze, a detail in the background: your first response is part of the message. Then read the card's words, and let the two meet.
5. Sit with it for a few minutes
Read the question to contemplate, or ask yourself: "Where in my life does this speak to me?" Write down what comes up, even if it seems small. Often the meaning becomes clear later, when you read back what you wrote.
If the card has an affirmation, say it aloud. Even better, say it looking yourself in the eyes in the mirror. Come back to it during the day.
6. Let it go with you
You don't need to understand everything right away. Carry the card with you through your day, as a thought, a photo on your phone, or the affirmation on a sticky note. Notice where it shows up.
Spreads for when you want more
When one card is not enough, a simple spread can bring more perspective:
- Past, Present & Future: three cards for what was, what is, and what is unfolding.
- Dawn, Day & Dusk: what is beginning, what to focus on, and what to release.
- The Four Movements (New Dawn) or Your Path (The New Paradigm of Existence), with one card from each part of the deck.
A card of your own, every day
Both of my oracle decks live in an App with a free Card of the Day: New Dawn, with its paintings, messages and affirmations, and The New Paradigm of Existence, with its Journey, Affirmation and Mastery cards and Guided Journeys. Every reading you do is saved in a private journal on your phone, so you can see how your guidance unfolds over time.
Remember: magic is all around us. Trust your intuition, and flow with what resonates with your heart's truth.
